Dear Sandra Russell:
When I was 7 months old I went to live with Farley and Alice (my aunt) Montgomery. My older sister had spinal meningitis so the doctor thought I should leave. Farley and Alice not having had any children begged my own father and mother to let me stay with them. While never being legally adopted, I called Farley and Alice, Mom and Dad...

When I was a little girl two elderly ladies came to visit. If I remember correctly they were called Aunt Hat (I suppose Harriet) and Aunt Matt. The surname of one was Spencer. There is an Almon Spencer in our neighborhood who I believe is a distant relative. There was also an Aunt Amy or Aimie Whitney, but these could have been George Montgomery's wife's relatives.

There was a Rose Kemp (Mrs. Walter Kemp) who lived near Smithfield that Jack Fogarty always visited when he came to this area. I wonder if Rose was his sister?

Stanley Montgomery, who was a cousin (I think) of Dad's, lived in the area when a child. I don't think his mother was married. His mother was Miranda Montgomery. Stanley married and lived in the States somewhere and had some children. He left his wife and came back to Canada and lived with the Valentine girls. I remember a story of Jack F. (Fogarty?) going to see the wife and buying clothes for the children since Stanley didn't leave them provided for.

Francis Montgomery married a Val (I suppose Valerie) Vanslyke. They didn't have any children that I know of. Jack Montgomery saod tjat George has a brother, Stanley. I don't think so, since Stanley was illegitimate maybe he was registered that way.

I can't remember what Frank's wife looked like. I only remember that she used a lot of Talcum powder on her face and when we went to visit she gave me the tins to play with. Would you be kind enough to send this on to Jack Montgomery when you are finished with it. Jack Montgomery asked about a Mary Montgomery. I've heard Mom and Dad speak of a Mary who came from Scotland and I think just worked for people in the area.

I hope I've been of some help, Sincerely, Allie Nelson
